Henry and the Nat Turner's Rebellion
Introduction:
We will never understand the lives of slaves, no matter how sympathetic we are. I had found an artifact that will help us understand though. I am proud to show a journal written by a slave. He was a friend of Nat Turner, a rebel that fought for slaves right and led one of the most famous slave rebellions. I want everyone to understand that the life of a slave is not an easy life.
The journal is full of information and tells the lives of slaves. It also tells what happened during the antebellum (before civil war) and the Nat Turner's rebellion. The perspective of the story is from one of Nat's close friend, Henry. You will see what he went through and what he thought of other people and slaves. The journal will let students understand even more about what tragedy happened during slavery.

Intended Outcome:
My intended outcome is that everyone understands what happen in this dark moment in our time period. I also want the audience to understand the life of a slave and the rebellions. I hope this is a fun experience of the antebellum period. I guess that most of you would not read but instead read my poster and understand what had happened. The rebellion is very fascinating. I hope this is a great museum piece!

Results:
I think people will understand what happened during the Civil War. The journal has changed people's persepctive on slavery. The dimensions are about 9" to 4.5". It is a black journal written in a cursive handwriting and is slightly torn. The poster board's dimension is about 14" to 22". It is white with writing and old scrap paper to add emphasis.
The journal was actually used to draw skecths of things. Instead of drawing, I wrote about slavery and added one picture at the end. The picture is two hands broken free from a chain. This means freedom. About 10 of the pages were torn out completely to make it look like it was eaten by a raccoon. The journal came out as well as I expected. The stand on the back was to hold a decorated plate.

Reflection:
I learned a lot from making the journal. Besides learning about the slave rebellion, I also learned more about the topics of slavery. Learning how to write like a slave was also new to me. I liked this project more than any other project I did in the past because I get to see how everyone else did it. There were almost no problem writing the journal. Next time I may do someething else or write in a different time period.
