Commas, Ellipses, and Dashes
Hyphens are used in compound words like such a well-respected, used to connect phrases like fifty years old, and to finish off a word that is on the next line. There are also dashes, slightly longer than a hyphen are used for telephone numbers. An en dash is used when telling intervals of time like 6 am - 7 pm.
An em dash is used kind of like a parentheses. I found out that the cake -which I made- is gone. Or you could use it when interfering with a thought. Man I love to have some - ouch!
Commas are a brief pause. It separates things like, "Bob, Bob 2, and Bob 4", or could be used to separate clauses like "After the math test, I threw up." They also prevent run-offs.
Ellipses are three dots that can either trail off a thought (I ... uh ... got to um go.). Or can skip parts of quotations that are not needed ("Everyone will die. ... It is known." Bob.).
